Identifying the Problem


This one is a bit tricky.

The following does not form a complete list but may give you some ideas as to what to look for.

Visually, if your home
  • has a monolithic/mediterranean style cladding system
  • was built between 1987 and 2004
  • has flat roofs
  • has parapets walls
  • has skylights
  • has internal gutters
  • no flashings above doors and windows
  • has areas of garden/soil in direct contact with exterior walls
  • has areas where exterior cladding is in direct contact with a paved area such as a driveway
  • has cracking in the exterior plaster

    then you should get us to check it


Similarily if you have noticed
  • Cracks in ceilings
  • Damp patches in ceilings
  • Build up of mould anywhere
  • Bubbling around skirtings
  • A damp smell in some rooms

   then you should get us to check it


Glossary... explaining the technical

Parapet walls

Where the external wall is built up above the eaves with a gutter formed behind it. Can be purely decorative feature

Internal Gutters

A gutter system that collects water initially within the footprint of the building and then feeds into an internal or external downpipe

Flashings

Thin continuous pieces of sheet metal or other impervious material installed to prevent the passage of water into a structure from an angle or joint edge

Leaky homes will cost $11.3b to fix - report

Between 22,000 and 89,000 properties are affected by the leaky homes problem and the estimated cost of fixing them is $11.3 billion, a report released today says.
